Manufacturing Engineer – CAD & Fabrication

$70,000–$85,000/year | 4-Day Work Week | Mountain View, Arkansas

Engineering degree not required. Strong CAD skills and hands-on mechanical ability are.

Urban Forge is looking for a mechanically minded Production Engineer who can design in CAD and make those designs work in the real world.

CAD is a core part of this job. You will design jigs, fixtures, tooling, parts, and assemblies, then work directly with our production team to build, test, refine, and implement them.

We care more about what you can do than where you learned to do it. Your background may be engineering, fabrication, machining, manufacturing, welding, toolmaking, maintenance, or another hands-on field.

You need to be able to design it, build it, test it, and improve it.

What You'll Do

  • Use CAD daily to design jigs, fixtures, tooling, parts, and assemblies
  • Turn shop-floor problems into practical mechanical solutions
  • Build, test, and improve prototypes
  • Design tooling that makes fabrication and assembly faster, safer, and more repeatable
  • Work with production teams to identify bottlenecks and improve processes
  • Help integrate new equipment and manufacturing capabilities

Urban Forge is actively expanding its advanced manufacturing capabilities through UrbanFX, our specialized fabrication division, including CNC tube lasers, CNC brake presses, mandrel tube benders, and other advanced fabrication equipment. This role will help develop the tooling and processes needed to make those capabilities work well.

What We're Looking For

CAD proficiency is required.

You should be comfortable creating accurate parts, assemblies, and mechanical designs using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, Inventor, or similar software.

We prefer at least 1+ year of meaningful CAD experience, but demonstrated ability matters more than credentials.

You should also have strong mechanical intuition and hands-on experience in areas such as:

  • Metal fabrication or welding
  • Machining or CNC equipment
  • Tool, jig, or fixture building
  • Manufacturing or industrial maintenance
  • Mechanical design or prototyping

You do not need experience in every area.

The ideal candidate can take a problem from:

Idea → CAD Design → Prototype → Shop-Floor Testing → Final Solution

A bachelor's degree in engineering is not required. If you developed your CAD and mechanical skills through a technical program, trade, manufacturing career, military experience, self-teaching, or another path, we want to hear from you.

Ability matters more than credentials.

Why Urban Forge

  • 4-day work week — Monday through Thursday, with three-day weekends
  • Real impact — your designs will be built and used on the production floor
  • Modern manufacturing growth — help develop new equipment, tooling, and production capabilities
  • Room to advance — this role can grow into leadership over production engineering, manufacturing technology, and R&D
  • Competitive compensation — $70,000–$85,000, profit sharing, paid time off, 3 day weekends

About Urban Forge
